Is it common to find a name on the burial index, and not find the burial on the filmed records? I recently ordered FHL film 0106178, which has the burials for both Ballaugh and Michael covering the years 1847 – 1883.
I was looking for John Stowell. I know he died on 12 Jan. 1855 at Michael, and he’s on the burial index as age 30, and buried at Ballaugh, 15 Jan. 1855.
On this film, the 1855 burials for Ballaugh start at June 7, and end at December 13. I’m wondering if the first 5 months were missed during filming, or if the burials weren’t recorded for those months.
I went through the complete film twice to see if the missing pages were included somewhere else on the film, and I checked if his name was recorded in Michael, or in a different year for either place, so I believe I did a thorough search.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the index has most of the information, so I wasn’t shattered .... just puzzled.
For my own knowledge though, I’d like to know if there are other sources used when compiling an index?
