Bride Friendly Union Society

Can someone tell me what the Bride Friendly Union Society was all about? Did they lend money? or hold land as security for something?

I have a document which I found with the help of the "wills & deeds" index on http://www.lawsons.ca/

This is not a will (not sure what to call it), but it's about my g-grandfather Richard Pass, who was the President of the Bride Friendly Union Society at the time of his death - Sept. 23, 1903. Apparently he died intestate, and (if I'm understanding this correctly) his wife and daughter petitioned the court to designate someone to administer the part of the estate that affected a deed of Bond & Security dated 4 June 1864, for the sum of 20 pounds which had been granted from John and Alice Christian to named members of the society.

Incidentally, I'm in the process of transcribing this, and have most of it done, but I'm struggling with a few words in the pages which are handwritten. If anyone is interested in taking a look, please email me.

Thanks.
