Re: Monumental Inscriptions & Parish Registers

Hi , Brian, Frances, and Len.

Thanks for the help so far, I feel there is more to these events of birth / christening / marriage / death and burial's... so far re: either these two / or one Thomas Kneen's who died between 1811 and 1815. I just cannot believe the registers and M. I's can be that wrong.

Because when I started my Kneen research ten years ago, I spent hours each week at L.D.S. History Centres ordering films re: Manx Parishes to confirm the information from the L.D.S. and confiming the parish records. Then obtaining printed confirmation.

As you said earlier Brian these films are the "offical copies" Surely they must be the same as the registers, other wise there are a lot of us chasing incorrect information.

The L.D.S. web-site was not on the internet in those days, but I confirmed all their entries with Parish records as far back as my G.G.G. Grandfather this Thomas Kneen in question.

Per records above and film # 0106727 it showed he was christened 1860 died 6th August 1811 and was buried in 18th August 1811.

But the Lezayre Old yard M.I booklet showed one only Thomas Kneen died 1813.

My Canadian 4th cousin was on the Island last month and checked the records and headstone. He has informed me tonight he read the Kirk Christ Lezayre Old Yard copy of 1696 to 1998 Burial Register and found it notes 8th of August 1815 and the headstone shows died 6th August 1811 (my results of record) and his age at death 51 years. This points to 1860 christening.

I thought obtaining the Will of the Thomas Kneen of 1815 you mentioned Brian, it would show his wifes name.

Hope this explains all.

regards

Brian Kneen
