Thanks for interesting information. The Mr Crow Eliza and William worked for apparently adopted a son who "went off with his money". He had a fully staffed house in Morfa Conway, North Wales with 30 or 40 rooms, now demolished. My grandfather (William Evans) was a gamekeeper and farmer aftr his marriage to Eliza Eden, and Mr Crow and his friends used to come and shoot pheasants, and stay at my grandfather's house overlooking the Conway Valley. Eliza used to look after them, and when she died and William married my grandmother she looked after them in turn, as well as the farmhouse work and looking after the children. Mr Crow caused acute embarrassment once by bringing his mistress along. There used to be a portrait of him hanging in the house, wearing his chain of office. This got stolen along with antique furniture when the house was empty in the 1980s. Whether he left Liverpool and moved to Conway or just had that as a second house I don't know, but I have no information that he had Manx connections, just his cook.
