Yes Cornelius yet again. He is missing, totally, from the 1891 census and I suspect that he is at sea or with his son/nephew John Christian. ( John left Peel for Liverpool in about 1895-6 and married there in 1891, perhaps against her family's wishes). John and spouse are similarly missing from 1891 census.
In 1895 Cornelius married for a second time (widower) at the age of 47 at the parish church of German. His spouse was Elizabeth Quayle, 35 a spinster of Peel (father James Quayle farm labourer).
There were four witnesses. John Caskin (I wonder if this could be Cashin, but equally it could be Coskin), Malachi Crowley, Emma Quayle and Eleanor Quayle.
I can have a fair stab at the identity of Eleanor and Emma, whom I think were respectively his wife's sister and mother, and I may well have the family in Peel. I am perplexed by the other two. I am interested because I think that they were 'his' rather than 'hers' and the names, if one is not Cashin, are unusual.
I thought that trying to trace them in 1891 would be a start, but there are none that I can find! not on Man, not on the mainland. In 1881 there is one John Caskin in Durham, and one Malachi Crowley and he is of Irish descent but living in Monmouth in Wales. Not a strong candidate to my mind.
I am curious but equally anxious to try and trace anything related to Cornelius, perhaps they are boat crew ? I am not even sure if the names are Manx, or Irish.
Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of these people please, or cross their lines.
Equally the Quayles are of interest. I have yet to trace them fully, but there seems to be a brother (to Elizabeth) - Robert, all are Peel 1860s to 1920s perhaps further. Anyone recognise them please ?
