Margaret Cannell was the daughter of John and Margaret Cannell, baptized St. George, Douglas, February 2, 1808. She married second, as his second wife, at Lonan, July 31, 1845, John Cowley.
John Cowley's first wife was Margaret Skillicorn, daughter of John and Margaret (Corrin) Skillicorn, who had died at Lonan, August 29, 1843, age 44, leaving children Ann, Jane, Margaret, John, Thomas, Joseph, and Nelly.
Together, John Cowley and Margaret Cannell had the following children:
i. Eleanor “Nellie” Cowley was born about 1847. With parents in 1851 and 1861 census. She married, at Lonan, November 18, 1865, James Christian.
ii. Edward James Cowley was baptized June 10, 1849, and died July 3, 1929, age 80. He married, at Santon, November 7, 1872, Anne Kinnish. Anne died February 1, 1915, age 70.
iii. Nessie Cowley was baptized June 20, 1856. She married, at Lonan, April 27, 1882, John Corlett.
Margaret (Cannell) Cowley died at Lonan, January 22, 1884, age 76 years, buried January 24, 1884, “Margaret Cowley, Ballacollister, age 76."
John and Margaret (Cannell) Cowley of Ballacollister wrote a joint will, which was probated in 1878, after John’s death. They left bequests to their daughter Nessy; to their son Edward James Cowley; to Jane, wife of John Cowley now in America; to Thomas Cowley now in America; to Margaret, wife of James Hugeon in America; to Jane wife of John Quilleash; to the children of daughter Ann, wife of John Kermode; to Margaret, wife of John Kermode; to Ann wife of John Cojeen; to granddaughter Isabella Cretney; to daughter Elleanor, wife of James Christian.
To the children of Thomas Kneale and Margaret Cannell, as you have them, add the following:
i. Ann Kneale baptized at Lonan, September 16, 1827, and died July 31, 1896, age 68. She married first, at Lonan, January 29, 1846, John Kelly.
Ann Kneale married second, at Lonan, August 7, 1872, John Cojeen.
John Kneale, baptized September 12, 1834, died at sea on his passage to America, April 18, 1857. “Petition of John Cowley and Margaret Cowley of Lonan: John Kneale late of the parish of Lonan and son of your petitioner Margaret sailed for N. Y. in April last and died at sea intestate 18th day of said month.” Dated 15th December 1857. Administration granted to John Cowley of Lonan (his stepfather). Siblings William Kneale; Ann Kelly, wife of John Kelly; Margaret Kermode, wife of John Kermode; Jane Cowley, wife of John Cowley; Isabella Kneale; Edward James Cowley.
Isabella Kneale, baptized February 2, 1837, married April 27, 1861 Robert Cretney.
William Kneale, baptized February 6, 1842. He was living in 1857 when his brother John died, but not mentioned in his parents' will dated 1873. (There is a burial in Lonan for William Kneale, November 3, 1859, age 19--Not the right age, but possibly this William)
To the information about John Cowley, Jr, son of John and Margaret (Skillicorn) Cowley, add the following:
Children of Jane Kneale and John Cowley: born in Linden, Iowa County, Wisconsin. The 1900 census states she was the mother of six children, 2 living; the 1910 census states she was the mother of 7 children, 2 living.
i. Priscilla Cowley was born about 1859, and died April 6, 1895, age 37. She married _____ Lee.
ii. John J. Cowley was born about 1860, and died May 7, 1865, age 5.
iii. Matilda Cowley was born about 1865, and died September 6, 1881, age 16.
iv. William F. Cowley was born in May 1867. He married Ida Kermode.
v. Alfred L. Cowley was born in August 1870. He married Annie _____. Infant son of A. L. Cowley died October 23, 1907, age 3 days. They settled in Hidalgo County, Texas.
vi. Clarice Cowley died September 5, 1876, age 2 years. Probably this family.
