Thank you Frances, Blackfriars is a typo error on the 1871 British census. I will do as you suggest and look for marriage in the USA census. It is very hard to find anything on the IOM here in West Australia only the Church of latter day saints have some records so until I find Johns parents I cannot go any further thank you again.
