In Response To: Hales in Douglas ()

1st wife Elizabeth - died of cholera see www.manxnotebook.com/famhist/genealgy/cholera.htm.
must have married again as:
In memory of Christian Hales otherwise Quine, wife of James Hales of Douglas who departed this life on the full triumph of the faith of the gospel on the 31 July 1838, aged 21 years.
(Santon MI's - www.manxnotebook.com/famhist/mis/sn.htm) - he probably married again as in 1851 census living with margaret (15 years his junior)at 1, Windsor Park (both born in England) - James Hales was a well known tailor in Douglas and Methodist Local preacher (of the radical variety) + founder member of Manx rechabites

His son James is also shown as tailor in 1881 census

It is possible he came over to Douglas with his parents as there are records of Hales burials from turn of 1800's - see Brian Lawson's index www.lawsons.ca
