Dont confuse cars with automobiles or motor cars.

Car is an old, respected term for a horse-drawn passenger vehicle.

I suspect the vehicles that are drawn along Douglas promenade on rails are stlll referred to as the "horse cars" and I remember taking the "electric car" to Ramsey.
