How much information do you have about the decendants of your John who emigrated to NJ? I read somewhere that his descendants where active in the revolution, including a reference something to the effect of "head of the Kaighin family signed thousands of confessions of treason to the crown". Do you know about this story? Also, do you have pedigree tables for this line? I'm not directly descended from him, but I am through his brother Charles (b. 1apr1673) who married Mary Christian.
