Re: Cath. Qualtrough Fox Rothmel/Rothwell

Elizabeth:

Robert Tear was the son of Edward Teare and Mabel Hingley Walker Teare (d. 1731) Mable was my ancestor through her daughter Ann Walker (m. John Smith of London) whose daughter Ann Smith (1706 - 1789) married John Cannon of Cooilshellagh, KM.
Mable was a Manx Gaelic poetess & wrote the lament "Illiam Walker as Robin Tear" having outlived her two talented sons.
Her son William Walker was of course Schoolmaster of Douglas & later Rector of Ballaugh. He endowed Walker's School at Ballaugh.
William Tear was the confidential clerk of William Murrey, merchant of Douglas & inherited much of the Murrey estate, but it proved to be much endebted.
His widow Charlotte endowed "Charlotte Teare's Almshouses" in Douglas before leaving the Island ro live "across".
