Re: Mrs Constance Radcliffe (trees)

This is slightly worrying. Before she moved out of her last house Constance told me that she was making arrangements for her papers to be deposited at the Library of the Manx Museum. After she had moved into Ramsey she confirmed that this had been done. In earlier times I would ask if she could give me, for instance, the tree of the Christians, Lewaigue. Back would come a two-page tree, which I have assumed was copied out from something she already had, not specially compiled for me. I imagined that, once the papers had transferred to the Museum, one could go in and browse through the box files that she used to keep out on her shelves, much as one can ask for the notes of the brothers Goodwin, and find a wealth of such trees.

Why is it difficult to consult these at the Museum, where they are held, but possible at the library of the FHS, whose opening hours are much more restricted, as I remember?

I have a copy of Constance's typescript history of the Kerruishes of Maughold, with trees of the four main lines, that she prepared for Keith Kerruish, Ballafayle. I suppose his permission should be sought before making this work public. I also have a few other trees, including Christians, Lewaigue, Baldromma and Ballaterson, all in Maughold.
