Re: Help on Taggarts please
In Response To: Help on Taggarts please ()

Greetings...
Our family is from the Isle of Man, specifically, Arbory and Malew. The family farms or locations associated with our group of Taggart's are all in the area just west of Castletown and include Balladoole, Foxdale, Red Gap and Poolvaish by name. I have posted a quick family tree on Genealogy.com under Taggart's-Isle of Man.

I've gotten back as far as a gggg-gf, a William Taggart b. 1760, his son Paul my ggg-gf b.1 Feb 1789 d. 3 July 1885, Paul's son William, my gg-gf b. 3 March 1819, his son John Frank Taggart, my g-gf, born 28 Nov 1858 in Red Gap, IOM, on the west side of old Castletown. He, with three brothers came to the US in the 1877-1880 range. Siblings names thruout the time are, unfortunetly, the common William, Paul, Thomas, John, James, Joseph and Richard and for the girls, Anne, Isabella, Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine and the like. No matter which branch of Taggart's you are connected with on IOM, these names occur over and over, even within the cousins at the same time! A real pain to research but at least it is a small area. Most of ours are listed as Kirk Malew up until about 1826-27 then all are Kirk Arbory after that. As far as I know, we have no direct descendants living on the IOM, the last having moved to Liverpool and Scotland years ago. My dad and two different aunts from stateside visited there and met some relatives before the last passed away about 25 years ago. My tree has been helped by Donna Douglas who confirmed a great deal of my tentative info. She is a regular encyclopedia of IOM stuff as is Brian Lawson and Mr. Coakley. Hope this helps...let me know what you have.
