Re: Little people and the missing roof?

Yes - the roofless church is still there. St Trinians stands all by itself in a field bordering the main Douglas - Peel road just before Greeba Mountain and Sir Hall Caine's Greeba Castle in the parish of Marown. St Trinian and St Ninian, as in the church of that name in Douglas, are one and the same.

The "Little People", or person, involved was a Buggane who was a malicious sort of character. He delighted in blowing the roof of this church every time it was completed. It was reckoned that if someone spent a night in the church as soon as a new roof was completed this would drive the buggane away. The village tailor undertook this task and passed the time making a pair of breeches. He was down to his last button when his thread ran out and he left to obtain more and the buggane demolished the roof in his absence.

The moral is that not all little people were nice people.
