Hi Denise: Don forwarded me your response and I am delighted that we may be related. There must be some connection to us through Ivy Cottage, but at present it is a mystery. My grandfather's birth certificate states his place of birth as Ivy Cottage, Kirk Michael, his father was Arthur Moore, mother was "Mary Ann Moore formerly Shimmin". Garnet was born September 19, 1882. I believe my g grandfather, Arthur Moore, was the 2nd son of Nathaniel Moore and Esther Sayle. They had 6 sons which I have traced. I have Garnet's b. certificate to trace his family, but there is one other curious article - a post card with a photo of a white stucco cottage with thatched roof. At the lower right front it says Manx Cottage, Ballig, I.O.M. There is an interesting note on the back from "Fannie". I know Don has told you we are trying to solve the mystery as to why the sons (and maybe daughters also) were orphaned and sent to Canada. My email address is bmorley@westelcom.com. Look forward to hearing from you. I found the Ivy Cottage residents in the census also a mystery. Both 50 and one son, 7 (could he be a grandson?). As you can see, I have questions with few answers. If Garnet was born in Ivy Cottage in 1882, what was the rest of his family doing at Barragarrow in 1881.
