John Murray, Ambassador to Constantinople 1766-75

I am PhD student at Edinburgh University researching British communities in the Levant in the 18th century. A John Murray, born at Douglas IOM around 1714, became a career diplomat and served as British resident in Venice 1754-66, then as ambassador at Constantinople 1766-75. Nothing is known of the first thirty or so years of his life, till his marriage to an Englishwoman in 1744. Does anyone know anything about the Murray family, please? They must have been relatively wealthy and probably landowners, an therefore prominent.
