I had heard of Bugler Dunne through a postage stamp issue but could recall nothing about him. A search on Google.com brings forth many references as will a search on Frances Coakley's Manx Notebook.
He is mentioned in "Manx Worthies", 1901, with the following -
It is said that about one hundred, Manxmen have been engaged in the recent war in South Africa, and we have reason to be proud of the conduct of all of them, from COLONEL GAWNE to little BUGLER DUNNE, who was presented to Queen Victoria and received a bugle from her in recognition of his gallantry at the Battle of Colenso.
It appears that he was a 14 year old who served in the Boer War with the Dublin Fusiliers.
