Is the North of Eng surname Gill from Irish Giolla

Please could someone help me with a surname problem? My Father’s side came from the Scottish Boarders village in West Lothian. Is the Gill surname in the North of England, have the same origin as the Gill’s of the Isle of Man. Also does name come from the Irish Gaelic word for Servant Giolla. Or is from the ON word for Valley. I was told that the Norse brought the name over from Ireland to the North of England as an Irish-Norse name is this true?

Yours sincerely

Daniel Gill
