Prior to 1878 there appears to have been no requirement to register a death.
Most adult deaths seem to have resulted in a burial in consecrated ground and hence an entry in the Parish Register.
However, it is quite obvious from Testimonary Courts that a number of deaths did not result in such a burial.
Does anyone know what the custom was in such cases?
