As part of my research of the IOM and Liverpool connections of my own Christian/Skelley family (and they are proving very difficult), I have bought a set of Liverpool directories: Pigots 1830, Gores 1843, Post Office directory 1858, Gores 1860, Gores 1911, Kelly's (Gore) 1938. I also have the Liverpool 1891 census pages. If you have an address or a relative that you wish to trace in Liverpool I am willing to try and find some information.
Before you email me however, please be aware of various limitations on the data.
1/ These are pictures of the book pages, they can be looked at (of course) but they are not indexed in any way at all. They are not words, they are photographs of words!
2/ It is not possible in every case to search fully. The later directories are sorted by address and surname, the earlier ones are not so much sorted as "put together".
3/ The data is usually limited only to the main householder's name, others living at the address are not included.
4/ There is little personal data such as age, birthplace etc, it is not census data. There is usually an occupation.
An example such as 1911 Gore's might be "41 Beloe Street, Christian, John." Thats is all there is on my great grandfather, although Joseph Taggart at number 45 is shown as a shipwright. It may just place a person somewhere at a time for you.
Well that is all pretty negative sounding, but I might just be able to find a relative for you, and repay some of the many kindnesses that the folks who have been on this board a long time, have shown us newbies.
