I'm pretty new with this genealogy research stuff and am getting pretty frustrated trying to follow information left by my Grandfather, Joseph Henry, born 1886, Irishtown, Dublin.
I'm quoting the notes he left in the event someone out there has information or can direct me to information that can further these records or verify the information:
"My Grandma Maria Cowley
My Granddad John Cowley
Born and married in Douglas, IOM
owned store in Douglas
Related to "Fairies", owners of Sugar Co.
Related to Earl of Derby
Formerly King of IOM
(Stone Quarry owners - Miss Grogan, Kuagan - two sisters)
The Rockerfellows of IOM
Never married, worth about 7 million pounds held by the British Government.
We are the only blood relatives.
All Grannies 6 children born in IOM
Grandma had 7 girls, 3 boys, was independant from birth and how wonderful she was, just like my mom."
Here is what I DO know:
Rebecca Margaret Cowley, b: 25 Feb 1858, daughter of John and Maria, m: Joseph Henry 15 Jun 1883 St. Nicholas Church, Liverpool, d: 25 Nov 1936 Vancouver, BC Canada
The marriage certificate for Rebecca and Joseph shows a witness of John E. Cowley. I suspect this is her brother. Father is listed as John Cowley, Bookkepper. It is possible Maria's middle name is Catherine.
So! There you have it. If anyone has ANY leads that might help us get beyond this stumbling block, it will surely be appreciated!
