I wonder if my Carran is your Karran?
My paternal grandmother was a Carran, her name was Eleanor Farrell and she married James Frederick Carran in 1878. I therefore wonder if your grandmother was one of her children? Unfortunately I have done very little research into this side of the family, yet, but what I have done has given me several different spellings of the surname.
