land records (Liber Vast)

I am trying to make sense out of Liber Vast entries in the late 18th and in the 19th centuries. How do I interpret the numbers which are part of every entry? I think I have figured out that the numbers above the names of the old and new owners refer to the part of the property which is being transferred. Is that correct?

How were the fines determined? Is there any way to use the fine to judge whether the entire property is involved? And what is the number to the right of the entry?

It is confusing to me when two (or more) people own parts of the same property. I have tried to trace the ownership of the various properties backward in time, but it is still confusing.

I do have copies of the wills of most of the people involved, which helps to confirm some of the transfers.

I have not yet had a chance to look at the Liber Assed. Would that help to clarify things?

Thank you for any help you can give.
