Re: Lewis Francis & Maria Hook
In Response To: Lewis Francis & Maria Hook ()

Hi, Malcolm! I think you'll find this a much more active board than the one where I encountered you...

Just out of curiosity (which I have an abundance) I went to the LDS Family Search page and had a look for your Lewis family. If you've never been there, here's how it works.

Go to the site http://www.familysearch.org and click on the Search tab at the top of the page. Then look on the left side of the page for International Genealogical Index. Click on that and when you get to the page, fill in the name Lewis Francis. Then go down to the Region box and choose British Isles and then choose Isle of Man in the Country box. Hit the Search button and you'll see the list of what is in the database.

You should see two listings, one for Lewis Henry Francis (christening) and one for Lewis Francis (marriage). Click on one and you'll see the details. You can also choose to check the little box that will save the record for later download. Look down towards the bottom of the screen at the Source Information and note the Batch Number there: C038191. (You can copy it for later pasting, if you like.) Now go back to the IGI Search page. Remove the first name and leave just Francis in the last name field and then put the C038191 batch number into the Batch box and hit the Search button. Up pop the Francis christenings. Now Lewis has a little sister! Maria Mary Hooke FRANCIS. Try it and you'll get her data. Just let me know if you get stuck and I'll be glad to help.

By the way, you can certainly search through the main search page as well, but I've gotten much better results on the IGI page. My great-grandfather's birth record was listed under J. instead of James and that had me stuck for a while. Pulling up all the records in a parish under a certain last name will solve such little problems.

Welcome to the board, Malcolm. Enjoy!
