coupe is a place in Lancashire - a thomas Coupe was a grocer etc in Duke st in Douglas in 1861 but cant find named much earlier than that - a descendant was obviously in same trade c.1920 -
The memory of Joe Coupe still with me lingers;
With twine and paper seeming intertwined,
His manual prowess still recurs to mind.
(A worthy son of his hard by, quite fit,
In this great war for right had done " his bit";
For shirking slackers quite a good example,
Of whom our streets still show a sorry sample).

also COUPE, Sergt. Percy, Natal Police, on the border of Basutoland. Son of Mr. Coupe, Victoria-street, Douglas was in Boer war
