My Grandfather John Leighton served in the royal Naval Reserve during WW1. He was serving on HMS Goliath when she was sunk in Dardanelles on 13 May 1915. John survived after 24 hours in the water, 500 others perished. I believe there were a number of Manxmen serving on this vessel. Is there any information locally about this event? was there anything in the local press of the day? Any help or information gratefully received.
John also spent his working life with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co. as did my father, are there any crew records for the company?
