Re: brew Family
In Response To: brew Family ()

The various street directories show Thomas Brew working as a butcher at 9 Strand St.In 1852 this shop was run by S. Cain and in 1848 by Thomas Cain. I wonder if the Brews learnt their trade at Isabella's family shop ? There was a Thomas Brew 1805, butcher residing at The Institute of Industry in 1881. This is a home for the elderly and infirmed which is now known as The Ellan Vannin Home, Kingswood Grove Douglas.
In Castle St- which is the continuation of Strand St.- there is a butchers shop in the name of Fred Brew but there are no Brews working there now, it's only an old trade name, my brother worked there part time, after school, in the 1950's.
