Cowell

I am still trying to see if there is any connection with my
forebears to the Isle of Man. I have the family tracedback to Great Bently in Essex England. Gregory Cowell ariied Mary ? at Great Bently circa 1750. Therre were eight children Greory 1751, Elizabeth 1753, Sarah 1755, Ann 1758, James 1760, John 1763, Mary 1765 and Thomas 1767 (all christening dates). I am descended from Thomas. On my earlier enquiry Fraces Coakley stated that Gregory wasn't a Manx name, but I have since found that there was a King Gregoryon the Isle - he had a daughter marry a Campbell.
Back to the Cowells. Thomas married Elizabeth and they had nine children Thomas, William, Elizabeth, John, Nancy, Arthur, Eliza, and twiens Godfrey and Janet all born at G. Bentley. William married Elizabeth Child and they came to Australia on board "The York" Nov.1825. William was in charge of the stock on board the vessel for The Australia Agriculture Company. They had four children
prior to travelling and anothe seven after arriving in Australia. The sixth child Thomas Australia born 1828 is more Great Grandfather. My Grandfather Fred is from his second marriage to Francis Catherine Annie Saxon.

I would be very gratefull if anyone could help me with where I might be able to look to find any information prior to 1750 on the Isle. My sister and I will be visiting the Isle13th - 16th. May 2002. We would be very interested to meet with anyone from the genealogy if they were interested to meet us.

Many thanks Myra Holm.
