Re: Manx Coats of Arms/Family Crests

dear Elizabeth,

Happy new year for 2002. I am writing from brisbane, but was born in Melbourne, the great-great-grandson of James Quilliam and Cath Elinor Clague of Malew Parish, Castletown Isle of Man, married in 1850 and emigrated to Australia soon after. I have family history back to 1699 on the isle, with connections to KELLY,QUAYLE,BELL,SANSBURY/SAMSBURIE,BRIDSON,HARRISON,McGREY/McCREA,BRIDSON, to name a few. I have a copy of the Quilliam coat of arms, but the supplier told me it was of Welch origin. Another source told me it came from Ireland, but I am convinced it has Nordic origins. I would be interested in finding out about the crests/coats of arms for the families I'm connected to. James and Cath had twelve children, and have lots of descendants in Australia and New Zealand. with kindest regards, I remain, yours faithfully, warren B. Turner
