Thanks for your efforts on this. I think a few items got confused in translation though; (Ray suggests his euphoric state was a factor).
My grandfather Percy (Halsall) was likely born at the turn of the century. I have his Book of Common Prayer dated 1906, with some of his handwriting that appears to be that of a pre-teen boy.
My Grandmother, Dorothy (nee Hall) was also born around 1900, and died in 1981 in Johannesburg in her eighties.
Their first daughter (my mother) was Remon Dorothy Halsall, born in Johannesburg in the late 1920s. She died in Dar es Salaam in December 1955 (in childbirth).
They had another daughter Philippa born in the 1940s, I believe. She is now married to Peter Preston, and I believe has left South Africa. At any rate she is well out of touch with us.
