Re: Manx and the African slave trade

The name Monix has as far I as can tell no Manx connection - it does not appear in the list of Slave ship captains nor does it appear in any of a fairly extensive list of documents on my site - I think I have expressed similar ideas before - the links between Alabama and the Island I think were fairly tenuous - some Christian (family not religion) moved there according to Moore - Kinvig states: Colorado, with centres such as Denver, and Alabama, where Mobile is the place chiefly responsible for Manx settlers. Excluding the latter State, the South is significantly devoid of people of Manx origin, as well as some farming States such as the two Dakotas (http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/iomnhas/v054p436.htm) and I suspect most of those were late 19th settlers
