Hi, my name is Kenneth Robert Clucas and I'm looking for some help in locating relatives on the Isle of Man. My father (Kenneth Charles), mother, and I will be traveling to the IOM in mid-June, and with any luck we'd like to find and meet any of our cousins while we are there.
My grandfather, John Caesar Clucas was born on the island and emmigrated to the United States sometime after 20 January 1908. I also know his birthday was 08 April 1885 and he died here in the United States in 1959. Before his departure, he was given a bible with the following inscription:
" Presented to John Caesar Clucas, as a token of respect, by the
superintendent of Ballaugh New Wesleyan Sunday School (Ramsey Circuit) on
the occasion of his departure from the Isle of Man to America.
James T. Corlett (Suprv)
Ballaugh,
I. O. Man 20th Jan. 1908"
With the help of some other Internet friends also reseaching Manx genealogy (thanks to Brian Lawson and Gary Clucas), I also have the 1891 census listing for (I believe) John Caesar's parents, and also lists his siblings at that time:
"1891 census, Ballaugh, district 4, entry 18, 2 Ballamona Cottage
Philip Clucas, head, married,32, agricultural labourer, Andreas
Ann Jane, wife, married, 31, Jurby ( )
Agnes, daughter, single 9, scholar, Jurby
John C, son single, 6, Andreas
Sarah A, daughter, single, 5, Ballaugh
Catherine, daughter, single, 2, Ballaugh"
Other notes from my father's half-sister indicate that there was another brother, Tom, and another sister, Edith. One of Tom's three children, Dorthy, used to keep in touch with dad's half-sister. Tom's other children were Florence and Tom Jr.
In any case, I'd like to try and make contact with any of their (Agnes, Sarah A., Catherine, Tom, or Edith) children or grandchildren.
Any help or leads would be most appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
