In Response To: Victoria Rd Douglas ()

Hi, Sue, Are you connected with Harry and Beattie Crellin? I recall visiting them in the 1950s, and getting tomato chats from their greenhouse, which I think was on the left of the cottage. They were friends of my grandparents.

I recall lots of chalets being on the land which is now owned by Shoprite, and also the doorway to the tunnel under the road, to the main part of the holiday camp which was on the seaward side of Victoria Road. Is it possible that the building you can see on the photo is of the chalets? The laundry blocks and washrooms were down towards Linden Grove, right up to the garage door style gate which is of course no longer there, but was in line with the boundary wall at the back of the Grove houses, but at the bottom, at the top of Mr. Stephenson's big garden, (now the car park).

I used to play all round that area. It was one amazing playground. If it is not the chalets on your photo, I would be glad to know what it was too.

Susanne.
