I realize that this is not strictly genealogy, (though I have read that McCraine became Craine ultimately, so he still may be 'one of our lot'). Anyway, my husband recently bought a 1950's book on the Isle of Man by Canon E H Stenning. In it he mentioned that "in 1516 William McCraine, cleric, was arraigned for manslaughter. The case was tried by the two Deemsters, who asked for a court of the wisest and most aged of the 'Twenty-four' to hear the case with them." We'll probably never know whether or not he was 'one of our lot', but does anyone know anything about this case - e.g. the outcome, or who William McCraine killed, since this was not mentioned in the book. Jennie Craine, West Wales
