May I draw new genealogists, and maybe some older genealogists, researching Manx family names, to the book advertised on the Isle of Man Family History Society index page. It is an excellent book. A pen-friend of mine has just received hers, and has realised how important it is, and is making her re-think her work.
Tracing Manx history is not just a case of following the I.G.I. through. It looks easy that way, and names, and dates, can happily fit into a convenient slot; but they very well may be the wrong line. It is hard to accept that there is a mistake in the tracings on which one has spent so much time, but to let a mistake lie, and perhaps be published, is a waste of everybody's time.
This book is almost a bible to the Manx genealogist. I must make it clear that I have no personal interest in the sale of this book, nor have I been asked by the Isle of Man Family History Society to write this. It is the result of a conversation with friends on the subject.
