Re: Corrin in Castletown
In Response To: Corrin in Castletown ()

I asked my mother, who was born and brought up in Castletown. She was able to describe College Green and said her Aunt Kitty lived in the first house, which she had visited many times as a child. She remembered her as Kitty Corrin (not unusual for people to still use the family name even after marriage to describe someone). My mother's mother was Isabella Kelly, whose brother Jimmy married Ellen Corrin (Kitty's sister I presume). Certainly Mum can remember Jimmy staying with Kitty when on holiday (he lived in Sheffield). I can't find a link in the 1881 Census but there may be a clue - Jimmy's daughters were Blanch, Mona and Essie. In the Market Place in Castletown 1881, there is a Corrin family - Tom, Bank Agent, with a daughter Blanch but that's just speculation that Jimmy named her after a relative.
The only other piece of information I can offer at present concerns Maggie Corrin. As a child I remember Maggie, who ran a sweet shop in Malew St, Castletown (again, Maggie was married to Willie Oates, but everyone knew her as Maggie Corrin). Mum recalls she ran it with her brother Geoff before she married, and as we are related to her, it must be the same family. I suggest you look at the 1891 Census for Anne and Ellen, and possibly the Malew Burial Record/Monumental Inscriptions (I've checked Arbory for you with no success). Meanwhile,I will make further enquiries amongst my relatives in Castletown.
