13th Century King of Isle of Man

I have been researching my family tree and I recently discovered a small biography notation on my 6th great-grandfather. It was the first I had ever seen of it. It says:

          Christopher Beeks
Came to America at the time of the Revolutionary War with a commission from the King of England, but deciding that the Cause of the Americans was just, he returned the Commission and joined the Americans in their struggle for freedom. Decendant of Anthony Bek (Beke, Beeks) Bishop of Durham and King of the Isle of Man in the 13th century.

I came to this website to find out about the Isle of Man because I don't know too much on the history of England or the Isle of Man. What I am finding is fascinating.

Christopher Beeks married Catherine Barnes and I haven't been able to find out any information about his birth or what ship he came over on. He was born abt 1755-1756. I am wondering if the Beeks, Bek, Beke surname sounds familar to anyone.

Any help or information anyone can supply on this surname or if anyone can prove or disprove this please let me know.

                                   Thanks,
                                      Lisa Beeks
