COWLEY genealogy

I have been diligently searching census and other records for my grandfather. His name was either John Richard or Richard COWLEY, born about 1875 in or near Liverpool/Isle of Man area. He married Mary Mannock of Oldham-below-town, Lancs, around 1900. Their child was my mother Sarah COWLEY, born 1902. There may have been another daughter Annie, who died in her youth. Richard probably was in WW1: we think he was at Gallipoli, probably a technician rather than combatant. His occupation was pavior. His father was Thomas who was a club secretary, possibly in London or Liverpool.
Richard may have had a brother James associated with diplomatic service.
Mary Mannock had some sort of a connection with the Duchess of Buccleugh (spelling?), but she was herself neither wealthy or wellborn as far as I know.
Nevertheless, and quite oddly, I have a picture which claims to be of Mary and her mother Kate in court presentation dress (white gown and feathers).
If ANYone has ANY information or help regarding ANY of this message, I'm all ears. With thanks and rather much desperation, Tom Jackson
