some help with Isle of Man history?

I'm not sure where else to go with this question.

My ultimate goal is to find the roots of the name Ayla - it seems to be used in several languages/cultures. But I've recently found a text that mentions an Ayla who was the daughter of "Olaf (1124-1154), King of Mann and the South Isles".

So I guess what I'm wondering is..

1. Does the name or word Ayla mean anything that anyone knows?

2. What are the roots of the Isle of Man? ie.. from where did its --original-- settlers come from if known? did they simply spread out from England/Scotland or perhaps from some of the scandinavian countries?

Any help would be appreciated. I will look here for answers or you can email me at anederlof@comnet.ca if you prefer.

Thanks!
