Re: Kewley connection
In Response To: Kewley connection ()

Hi! I've left a message on another Kewly bulletin board and would also like to touch base with you. My grandfather was John Kew, born on the Isle of Man in 1810 or 1820. His father was John (farmer) and his mother was Elizabeth. He emigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, arriving with a young daughter, Emily around 1865. He married my grandmother, Margaret Gerrard in 1876 with whom he had four children. Because of the time span between generations neither my cousin, Terry Punch of Halifax have very much information about him and we don't know about the accuracy of what we have. My father told me his father was widowed and had a grown family in Liverpool (or perhaps he just emigrated from Liverpool) when he emigrated. My cousin has found a John Kewn who was born in 1830 but I'm not convinced that this is the right person.
The ancestor you list is not that far apart in age from my grandfather. It's possible that he shortened his name to Kew from some other variation. Good luck in your search. I'll keep my eyes open for Jane Anne in mine.
