While searching the 1511 Manorial Roll for Conchan Parish, I found the name McQuate several times. This was the first time I have seen the name spelled that way prior to 1800. I had always assumed that McQuate was a variation of McQuaid that evolved in the US during the 1800s. Is it possible that my ancestors emigrated from the IOM to the US in the 1700s? Is McQuate an IOM variation of McQuaid?
