Coupe is in Lancashire - according to W H Gill (3rd Manx Scapbook) http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/famhist/fnames/amanx.htm
the name is found on Man before 17th century - however doesnt seem to occur in Felthams MI's nor in any of my pages until the 1860's when Thomas Coupe appears - in 1881 census Joseph Coupe aged 41 born Oldham - married to a Linconshire born wife but with children born on Island

In 1861 directory http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/fulltext/lg1861/d_do.htm
Coupe Thomas, 41 Duke st Grocer + Spirit Dealer Douglas
In 1883 directory http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/fulltext/sm1883/do.htm
COUPE JOSEPH, TOBACCO and CIGAR MERCHANT, VICTORIA STREET, CORNER OF FORT STREET

in http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Contrib/manx/fulltext/ds1918/dukest.htm

The site of William Waid’s once famous shop;
Here was the thrifty housewife’s favourite mart,
Where blending tea was rendered a fine art;
The very best of goods of every kind,
Digits all to the front leave nought behind,
What marvellous dexterity of fingers,
The memory of Joe Coupe still with me lingers;
With twine and paper seeming intertwined,
His manual prowess still recurs to mind.
(A worthy son of his hard by, quite fit,
In this great war for right had done " his bit";
For shirking slackers quite a good example,
Of whom our streets still show a sorry sample).
