well staying in Ramsey puts you off the 'main tourist trail' - you may have Norse genes but probably not via the Radcliffe line as they would appear to originate from various officials that came over during the early Stanley acquisition of the Island in the 15th Century.
If you have no knowledge of Manx history then a visit to the House of Manannan in Peel is probably the easiest entry - the No 5 bus will take you within walking distance. There are museums in all the 4 towns - the main one is in Douglas - if you intend to do any family history research then the library there is key (open 10-4.30 Weds thru Sat)
If you want to get a feel for the Island then this is usually better done on foot - there are waling groups + a number of low cost guide books giving suggested walks - north of Ramsey is mostly flat and quite different from the 'mountains' south - the walk from Ramsey round to Port-e-Vullan and onto Maughold is highly recommended.
