Hi Graeme
I looked at the trees for Mary Ann Cubbon (b circa 1840 IOM) on Ancestry and saw that, of the ones which suggested parents’ names for MAC, they seemed to go for Richard Cubbon and Elizabeth Hogg --- whereas your tree has Henry Cubbon and Catherine Duggan. Initially, I liked your suggestion best, but after analysing the Mary Cubbon entries in the census indexes and looking up the actual census pages, in combination with baptism records and snippets of information in the Ancestry trees (“she was born on 25th December 1840 and arrived in NZ on 25 Dec 1856” and married in NZ in 1861, from her newspaper obituary) I’m confused. I seem to have ruled out the 3 possible Mary Cubbons detailed below, for various reasons. Here are my notes:

BUT – this Mary Ann Cubbon died in 1843 and her parents had another daughter in 1845 whom they named Mary Ann:

So I’ve ruled out Mary Cubbon 1* because she died age 3, and her sister, who was baptised with the same name, was still on the IOM in 1861.

Can’t find her after 1851. Does her April/May birthday rule her out ? How reliable was the information in her obit stating that her birthday was 25 December ?

Is “Marther” age 1 the same child as Mary bap 18 May 1840 ?
I can’t find the family after 1841. Could this be the Mary Cubbon who emigrated to NZ ?
