My 4 x great grandfather was George Nugent born circa 1799 it is assumed in the isle of Man but he could have been born elsewhere? He had 3 children with Mary Hogg between 1819 and 1823. However I've never found a marriage record. I'm looking to find a birth or marriage record for George if anyone can help at all?
He died in a drowning accident in Douglas harbor as a young father in 1825 at the age of 26. I have several newspaper stories from the time. It is assumed he was from a seafaring family - his sons and grandsons for the next 3 generations were all merchant mariners and eventually moved to Liverpool between 1885 and 1888 where my family remain now.

CHARITY
A boat which left left the Harbour of Douglas to go alongside the James Watt, Steam-packet, for the purpose of conveying the Mail and passengers on Shore, was upset in returning to the Harbour, and GEORGE NUGENT, who had the charge of the Mail, was drowned, and has left a widow and three children- the youngest of whom was then only a week old to lament his untimely fate.
This poor family, who are in a wretched and pitiable condition, and almost without the common necessaries of life, have been in some manner relieved by the very liberal Contributions which have been made for them. A Subscription is now open at Mr. M-MEIKEN"S office, where the smallest Contributions for this destitute Family will be most thankfully received and appropriated for their use, by a small weekly payment to the widow. The attention of the public is particularly solicited to this case, as one that has more than usual interest, from the widow and her new born infant being so utterly destitute and helpless. Douglas, 30th April, 1825.
