I wonder if you are right about Bertha/Betsy/Elizabeth. Either her marriage cert or her son’s birth certificate state she came from Liverpool but born in IoM so this could be true - I’m away at the moment so can’t check. She didn’t have a good life to be honest so being orphaned was just her luck....
