This will be the John Gelling bp 26 Feb 1764 Marown, eldest son of John Gelling & Margaret Quilliam of Ballamillaghyn Braddan. He married Elizabeth Oates 16 Jan 1787 Braddan and died 22 Feb 1854 at Ballaugh German and buried the next day in Braddan. He was 90 years old. Elizabeth died a year later age 88. 10 children born but 8 of them died long before they did. Child #10 and son #8 Philip became the heir of Ballamillaghyn, which proves sometimes there's hope for the much younger sons.
Next generation back (I'll call John #2), John Gelling bp 2 Jul 1740 Braddan and died 29 Jul 1829 at Ballarain Ballaugh aged 89, buried 2 days later Braddan. He married Margaret Quilliam 26 Jul 1763 Marown, 7 children born Ballamillaghyn, and she was buried 11 May 1822 Braddan age 82. They were at Ballamillaghyn until their final years.
John #2 was the eldest child of John Gelling (John #3 1722-1812) and Catharine Killey (1718-1806) of Ballamillaghyn. They were written about a lot here on the BB in the past. He also lived to age 90, she to 88 and they were married nearly 70 years, 16 Jun 1739. 10 children born at Ballamillaghyn. You can see there's lots of longevity in this lot.
John #3 was bp 23 Sep 1722 Braddan, son of John Gelling (John #4 1690/1-1736/7) and Ann Moore (1695-1748) of Santon. As far as I know this John #4 only married the one time, 7 Dec 1721 Braddan, and they had 4 children (last born son Wm died) before John died at 46. His only living son John was just 14, and he was married 3 years later aged barely 17 at best. No mention of mother's permission.
John #4 was bap 10 Jan 1690/1 Braddan to yet another John Gelling (John #5 1669/70-1732/3) & Susanna Moore (ca 1660-1731) of Santon, married ca 1687. They had 3 children and also John #5 had an illeg son also named John 1705 by Ann Fayle who was the executor of his father's will and ancestor of a huge number of descendants.
We finally get a break in the John sequence. John #5 was bapt 18 Feb 1669/70 to William Gelling & Joney Christian, their 9th child and only living son. William Gelling of Ballamillaghyn was buried 24 Jun 1683 Braddan and Joney 9 Jul 1688. I have theories of where it goes from there. I think William's father will be named John and died when William was young, perhaps the only son. A 1664 Braddan will of another William Gelling mentions passing "Baldell Mill" to his brother's son William Gelling who must be the above Wm. This Will has a word after "William Gelling" that might be "jun'r" but I need some help to figure it out.
This is a very interesting family with a huge number of descendants. It took years but I think it's mostly figured out now.
