Sir Thomas Hall Caine had only one son Ralph Hall Caine who it seems had a number of liaisons with older women - one child of which (a daughter) was actually registered as a daughter of Sir Thomas Hall Caine (see Viv Allen's biography of Hall Caine) - may Richard was the result of another liason - during WW1 Sir T H C got his son a safe job in London
