I suggest you start by searching the old-fashioned way to be sure you find your correct ancestors, and then any relatives.
Firstly buy your father's birth certificate as you would know his birth date.
You can do this online: www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
This will give you both his parents’ full names, and from these you can order their marriage cert which will give both their fathers’ names and occupations.
This should take you back to an available census date (1911 and every ten years earlier to 1841). See: www.familysearch.org.
