Here’s how I arrived at “parents William Waterson and Ann Thompson” for the Richard Waterson who married Mary Lea:

I searched Liverpool marriages for a Waterson who married between 1830 and 1860 and whose address / father’s details matched those of Richard Waterson (Trowbridge Street or Place / William Waterson, joiner). I found a match in John Waterson and fortunately, came across an excellent tree which, although it didn’t include Richard Waterson, gave me several siblings of John Waterson, and the 1841 census entry for the William Waterson / Ann Thompson household in Trowbridge Place, along with 7 of their children. I chose the most unusual christian name child (Rebecca) and followed her up to make sure that her mother was indeed Ann Thompson and not any of the other Anns who had children with a William Waterson in the same time frame.

The nearest I can get to proving that Richard Waterson’s mother’s name was Ann Thompson is his 1839 marriage details combined with the 1841 Liverpool household and baptism details of some of the children.
